You’ve probably heard and seen on commercial, (especially) your doctor or people say that they needed to go on a diet, and these other statements around dieting/diets. Chances are, you are guilty of saying this. I know I am was. Most people now a days, are scared of the word “diet“. What’s the first thought that pops up in your mind when you hear the word “diet”. Does it scare you? Does it mean losing weight? Starving yourself? Not enjoying food anymore? In this post, I want to make clear what diet really means.
The word “diet” doesn’t mean to lose weight. Diet means what everyone eats on a daily basics. In other words, if your daily eats (diet) consists of fruits and vegetables, that’s YOUR diet. You may not even realize that your on a diet. Even the animals in the wilderness, your pets, birds and every living species is on a DIET. Squirrels eat acorns – that’s their diet. Horses eat grass – that’s their diet. Cats eat tuna – that’s their diet. Hopefully, you get what I’m trying to say. Even if you live on one food for the rest of your life. Guess what – your still on a diet!
There are all these commercials for weight loss programs, and most of the testimonials talk about how that program taught them to “STOP DIETING and start living”. There are a few commercialized weight loss programs such as WeightWatchers, Yo Yo dieting, Sensa (just to name a couple), that promote you can eat whatever you want, and you’ll be losing weight and what not. It’s almost like your dream “diet”. Eat whatever you want and guess what – you’ll be losing weight! It’s all nonsense, people.
BOTTOM LINE – What your daily eats are is a diet. We’re ALL on a diet – and you may not even realize it! Diet doesn’t = lose weight. Diet = what you eat on a daily basis. Doctors have turned the entire meaning of the word “diet” and misconstrued it to something scary (as to losing weight, not eating this or that, etc). They are brainwashing people to think that diet means to lose weight. The truth of the matter is, the word “diet” is not really about losing weight and counting calories. I bet you if you were to go around and ask people what they eat in their diet, they would look at you all puzzled. Most people think that diet means to lose weight. So, their response to your question would be, “I’m not on a diet” (if they aren’t on any “special diet” such as vegan). I’ll be honest, I used to think that. But then I got educated on the true meaning of dieting. Don’t be fooled by doctors, people and tv commercials when they tell you about dieting. Think about it – if we stopped “dieting”, that would mean we would officially stop eating. I mean, it’s pretty common sense. And no, you don’t have to starve yourself because starving yourself is not the answer. Yes, you switch in diet plans (change in eats), but do not think that diet is a scary word, or this special word that “means” to lose weight and all. Remember, the true definition of diet is: one’s daily eats is their diet. Your daily eats! Simple as that. Remember, you YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.
