How well do you know your fruits and veggies? There are many fruits that are classified and treated as vegetables when in actuality, they’re fruits! Below are the common fruits that are mistakenly treated as vegetables but are actually fruits!
- Bell Peppers
- Pea pods
- Corn Kernels
- Nuts (how?! Nuts are basically a fruit that grows in a hard shell and a seed. The ‘seed’ of the what we know to be a nut, is the edible part that we eat.)
A good rule of thumb is, if the fruit or veggie has seeds, it’s a fruit. Even if the so-called veggie is seedless, it’s still a fruit because it originally has seeds. Seeds = fruits and ALL fruits, whether they’re seedless or not, have seeds in them. And if they don’t have seeds in them, they’ve got a pit, which is also like a large seed that can reproduce if you plant it in the ground.
Foods like broccoli, cabbage, carrots, celery, mushrooms, spinach, etc., are vegetables, as they don’t have any seeds in them.
Hope this post has helped you understand to better classify whether a veggie is a fruit or if a fruit is a vegetable.
